Work With Me

Dr. Kui Muraya partners with individuals, organizations,  and communities to drive evidence-based solutions and meaningful dialogue. Her work spans writing and story telling, speaking and facilitation, research and consulting, and thought leadership – all grounded in a commitment to gender equity and social justice.

Writing and Storytelling

Kui is a writer and storyteller at heart and comes from a long lineage of women storytellers. It is in her personal narrative writing, grounded in equity, where she derives her greatest joy. Kui has a reflective storytelling blog page where she regularly draws on her lived experiences to advance the conversation around gender equity and champion for a fairer world. She has also been invited to write guest blogs; and has written OpEds in Kenyan mainstream newspapers, amplifying and advocating for issues centred especially on gender equity, and social justice more broadly. She is a gifted communicator and uses her compelling writing and storytelling to uplift narratives and practices that advance gender justice, and promote a world rooted in fairness and inclusion.

Speaking & Facilitation

For over a decade, Kui has moderated and participated in dozens of  local and international panels; and interviewed both leaders and community members on a range of topics centred around equity. She has delivered numerous scientific and non-scientific presentations at global meetings and conferences such as: Women Leaders in Global Health (now WomenLift Health); The Lancet Women London Launch of Advancing Women in Science, Medicine and Global Health; The Oxford Tropical Network; The Global Symposia on Health Systems Research and many others.

Research and Consulting

Kui has worked in various roles as a senior gender and health systems researcher, including as a lead investigator. She is widely published in peer-reviewed, scientific journals; and has over 15 years experience in qualitative research with a focus on gender and intersectionality. She has led, co-led, and collaborated in several research projects and been competitively awarded funding for some of these projects. Additionally, she has done research consultancy work for organizations such as University of York – Centre for Health Economics; United Nations University – International Institute of Global Health (UNU-IIGH); and The World Health Organization – Regional Office for Africa.

Thought Leadership

Kui is a well-respected conversation shaper in the field of gender equity. In addition to her writings and public speaking, Kui’s thought leadership on gender equity has led to her being invited to sit on various boards and technical advisory groups, including as a gender expert in WHO Guideline Development Groups. Some of these boards and advisory groups include: The PLOS Scientific Advisory Council; Technical Advisory Board member for The Social Norms and Adolescents Evidence Review Project, led by the Center on Gender Equity & Health, University of California, San Diego (UCSD); core member of The Lancet Series on Racism, Xenophobia, Discrimination & Health Steering Working Group; Technical Advisory Group (TAG) member for a project studying exemplars/positive outliers in addressing racism, structural discrimination, and global health. This project supports the O’Neill-Lancet Commission on Racism, Structural Discrimination and Global Health; amongst others.
