I am a story-teller, writer, and thought leader in the global conversation to promote gender equity.

Dr. Kui Muraya is a storyteller, writer, and thought leader in the global conversation to promote gender equity.
She is also an Afro-optimist who deeply believes in the potential of the African continent and the promise of its people.

I hold a PhD in Health and Social Care and have led gender and health research at national and global levels.

Professionally, she holds a PhD in Health and Social Care. For over a decade, she worked in various roles as a senior gender and health systems researcher, including as a lead investigator. She also led the gender and health research portfolio at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme for several years.

She is widely published in scientific peer-reviewed journals and has strong expertise in qualitative social science research, with a focus on gender and intersectionality.

I am an active voice in the decolonizing global health movement, advocating for equity, diversity and accountability.

In recent years, Kui has also been an active voice in the decolonising global health movement, advocating for equity, diversity and accountability in global health partnerships; and in how we undertake and fund health research. Kui is also a senior fellow of the Aspen Global Innovators Group – a testament to her strong advocacy around gender equity and social justice more broadly.

She was also a fellow of
The Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL) from 2017-2019. She currently works as an independent consultant, and sits on various global research and technical advisory boards; as well as WHO Guideline Development Groups.

Through my writing and podcast, I amplify stories that challenge society to rethink harmful gender norms.

In addition to her scientific publications, Kui is an articulate and insightful non-fiction writer, drawing on her lived experiences to amplify and shine light on inequities that manifest in African societies. Through her blog page and opinion pieces, she writes stories that challenge society to rethink harmful and prejudicial gendered norms and expectations that harm all of us.

She also hosts a podcast (Konversations with Kui), an intimate safe space for candid hard-truths, and vulnerable conversations among African women and men.

I am deeply committed to leaving behind a positive footprint in my life’s journey and welcome you to journey with me.

Through her work and advocacy, Kui hopes to bring to the forefront the need for gender transformative change at the societal and system level; catalyse important conversations that shift the needle towards a fairer, more equitable world; and build a global gender-sensitive community that celebrates vulnerability and wellness.

She is deeply committed to leaving behind a positive footprint in her life’s journey and welcomes you to journey with her.
